“We believe that the new formula will be welcomed by motorists in Singapore who are concerned about increasing motoring costs. Through a combination of vehicle maintenance, improved driving styles and choosing the right fuel, we’ve shown customers can make a real difference to their own mileage figures,” said Elsie Sim, General Manager for Shell Singapore’s Retail Sales and Operations.

The new Shell Fuel Economy Formula is a result of a long-term research programme by Shell, dedicated to discovering and designing products to take motorists further. The addition of Synthetic Viscous Friction Improver enhances engine efficiency by reducing friction in moving engine parts and keeping engines clean.

The new Shell Fuel Economy Formula was the vital petrol ingredient in the incredible success of the Shell Fuel Economy World Record Challenge -- a mission by couple John and Helen Taylor to set a Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency through a drive around the world. The combination of the new Shell Fuel Economy Formula and FuelStretch driving tips resulted in the Taylors successfully circumnavigating 28,970km around the globe across 25 countries, in 78 days of driving, with only 24 fill-ups and 1,303 litres of fuel. They achieved an average of 22.2 km per litre surpassing all expectations. The Taylors used a completely standard car - a VW Golf FSI1.6 - exceeding the manufacturer’s official consumption figures of 14.3 km per litre by more than 55%. The Taylors’ Guinness World Record journey was the ultimate road test to help Shell validate their new formulation – furthering its commitment to its innovative R&D programme.

“Shell is proud to offer this new innovation to customers, helping to increase fuel efficiency and reduce motoring costs,” said Eric Holthusen, Shell’s Asia Pacific Fuel Technology Manager. “In the same way the Taylors set a new Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency using our new Fuel Economy Formula and FuelStretch driving tips, we hope everyday drivers in Singapore and around the world will be pleased with the results and set their own personal records for better fuel economy.”

The new Fuel Economy Formula is also launched in 16 other countries throughout 2006 and 2007 as part of Shell’s promise to customers around the world to deliver the best quality fuels. .

As part of the launch of the new Shell Fuel Economy Formula in Singapore and to enable everyday drivers to experience its benefits, Shell is organizing the Shell Fuel Economy Challenge on 1 October. The challenge will see more than 100 teams of participants perform interesting tasks at eight different checkpoints around Singapore. These checkpoints include five Shell stations, and three interesting challenges at varied locations around Singapore. Participants can use their creativity to complete one of the two routes assigned whilst minimising the fuel used.
