To keep things short, the new Maserati receives the 4244cc 90°, 32 Valve Twin Overhead Camshaft V8 engine comes equipped with low-pressure variable phase intake cams. It is small and light, with cylinder block and heads made from aluminium and silicon alloy.

It has a high peak power of 96.4 bhp/litre and the response close to a competition unit.

The GranTurismo’s inox steel exhaust system comes equipped with mechanical catalysers that satisfy the most severe anti-pollution regulations without compromising performance.

Combined with a drive by wire intake system, the self-adapting automatic gearbox brings the best out of the engine at low to medium revs without limiting the power high up. A heady 7100 rpm spells the shift limits of this auto, never heard of before in a full automatic.

Maserati departs from the conventional 50-50 school of thought when it comes to weight distribution, opting instead for a 49% front and 51% rear set up, obtained by engineering the engine behind the front axle.

A boxed steel monocoque provides makes the chassis rigid, while close collaboration between Maserati engineers and Pirelli technicians mean a big surprise might be in store for drivers of this car.
