New Toyota Supra to be produced from 2018

BMW and Toyota announced plans a few years ago to team up and make a sports car. Well, it seems as though that little idea will actually see the light, for the German and Japanese automakers have found a little firm willing to manufacture said cars for them. The company in question is Magna Steyr, famed for producing Mercedes’ G-class lineup. Expect the BMW version of the car to be called the Z5, and the Toyota version to be called the Supra. Production will begin in 2018, with a target of 60,000 units yearly. It comes as no surprise then that the firm specialises in low volume cars. However, their goal is to make more cars – last year, the firm built 103,904 cars, but with fresh tooling after some upgrading works, annual production at Graz should surpass 200,000 vehicles in 2018.
