NY: Singaporean involved in hit and run recovering well

24 year old Mr Al-Matin Mohamed, a Singaporean currently training at the the prestigious seafood restaurant, Le Bernardin, was hit by a getaway car on Monday and sustained rather severe injuries, which included suffered head trauma, two broken legs, a fractured pelvis and a busted arm. After hours of surgery and intensive care, Mr Al-Matin is recovering well; he could understand what others were saying and could mouth words, according to the 24 year old’s class mate Mr Joel Cheng.  He also added that  Mr Al-Matin’s mother and sister head over to New York City to pay a visit to their kin. Joel was on holiday in New York City when he read of the accident on the internet. He then went on and visited Mr Al-Matin in hospital.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented, "The Singapore Consulate in New York City is in contact with the injured Singaporean and his next of kin". Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin reported via Facebook that Mr Al-Matin is being treated at the best trauma centre in New York City and is receiving good care. He ended off by saying Mr Al-Matin’s injuries were “serious but not life threatening, so thank God for that"
