Postponement of February's Second COE Bidding Exercise Might be Due to Major Changes in Tax Structure
A two-day delay in the COE might be related to Monday’s Budget Day announcements. Plenty of speculation has been placed on the revised taxation of emissions standards, especially targeted at Diesel engine cars; which have recently grown in popularity in the city state.
Also on the agenda, is how to go about in administering tax rebates or surcharges, depending on the carbon dioxide emissions of a car.
According to ST, rules for private-hire cars will also likely be affected. In particular, Uber and Grab have been blamed for the increase of COE prices in recent years.
