SG: Cab Operators granted permission for fleet expansions

Comfort, CityCab and SMRT have been granted permission to expand their taxi fleets after meeting operation standards set by the LTA. Although they are free to add cabs to their fleet, the growth in the fleet is restricted to two percent for each of the three companies. This may seem small, but in reality, the 2 percent equates to about 400 new cabs. The other operators which have failed to meet standards for two consecutive months from January will be fined $5.50 for every cab, and up to $100,000 for each requirement not reached. They will be judged on their performances in 2013 to allow them to up their game in terms of service. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
