SG: Dealers turn to giving exotic freebies to attract business.

Giving out freebies in return for purchasing a valuable item may seem to be the marketing ploy of those working in the electronics business. Now it seems that those in the luxury car business have learnt a trick or two from their laptop-selling buddies. One car dealer in Singapore has resorted to giving out various freebies when one buys a car in a bid to bring in business.  They believe that the freebies may effectively cancel out the effects of poor sales as a result of the loan curbs put in place by the government.

They have gifted the majority of their customers arowana fish, worth about $4000 each, and insurance rebates. As of the 29th of May, at least 2 of their advertisements had such an offer. According to staff working in that dealership, business has improved dramatically, and over 70% of their customers have received the free fish. They later retracted the statement, saying that no fish were given away.

The AVA discourages the giveaway of pets as gifts. They recommend dealers to use other freebies to lure customers in, such as petrol vouchers or car wash packages.
