SG: Driver charged for vandalism

One would probably have seen the viral video of a Merc charging through the security barrier at Woodlands Checkpoint by now. We have done a news report on it yesterday, and there is an update to the whole fiaso. The 64 year old has been charged in court yesterday for not only committing a rash act, but also for injuring a police officer and vandalism. Tan was supposed to spend a week at the Jurong Police Division headquarters being questioned and remanded. He hoped that due to medical issues, the remand period could be shortened to 4 days. However, his request was rejected, and instead, police were told to report and inform his condition to their superiors. This is the first such incident where the barriers have failed. Further measures may be put in place to ensure Singapore’s checkpoints will be more secure.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
