SG: Driver jailed after causing death

In early 2013, 2 boys, 13 year old Nigel Yap Yew Cheong, and his seven-year old sibling, Donavan, were killed after the bicycle they were on was struck by a truck at the junction of Tampines Avenue 9 and Tampines Street 45. The driver, 57 year old Munir Mohd Naim, was sentenced in court to a two-week jail term, which will be accompanied by a five-year driving ban once he is released. He pleaded guilty to causing the death of the brothers due to negligence. Munir was remorseful, and hence, was given a shorter sentence. Cyclists should always be on the lookout whenever they are using the roads to prevent such an accident from happening again. More often than not, due to their size, larger vehicles may miss a cyclist completely, which may result in such a tragic accident.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
