SG: Drivers may need licenses to run chauffeur services
Drivers who run chauffeur services for ride-booking apps may soon need to sit for and get a vocational license. Current laws allow drivers to drive passengers around for a little fee, but as more use the service, the LTA has been studying possible measures to ensure commuter safety. However, Uber drivers are against this revision, for most believed that time, money and effort required to take said course will become an extra burden. They also believed that the existing feedback system built into the app is more than sufficient. A PR representative from GrabTaxi said that the firm is in discussion with partners in the industry to come up with a 'comprehensive curriculum for private-hire drivers'. It will also encourage its drivers to take up vocational licensing. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
