SG: HDB to step up carpark monitoring.
HDB has promised to step up carpark monitoring with tighter checks. This comes after a less than satisfactory grade has been awarded by the Auditor-General on Wednesday. Reports done by the Auditor-General’s office showed that HDB has been lax in managing and monitoring their parking wardens, with some failing to check all vehicles, and some not even bothering to turn up for work. The AGO got a rude shock after conducting 88 surprise checks, in which they found five instances where patrolling officers were not present at their patrol sites, despite indicating that they were. Not only that, for those who turned up for their duties, there had been 26 instances where wardens did not inspect all vehicles in the carparks, despite being required to do so. To ensure the parking wardens do their jobs properly, HDS says that it will be conducting more checks on wardens to ensure they are complying with the regulations put in place by HDB. Not only that, HDB also intend to introduce e-parking systems at carparks where it is “technically feasible to do so".
