SG: LTA to implement rules for walkways and pavements
As the usage of personal mobility devices (PMDs) continue to rise in popularity, it comes as no surprise that the LTA has had to step in and come up with new regulations to ensure that pedestrians and PMD users are able to coexist in relative harmony. Expect the new regulations, which will govern the type of devices that should be allowed, and at what speeds they can travel at, and areas which they can be utilised within, will be gradually reviewed and developed by Q2 2016. The advisory panel in charge of the rules was put together by the LTA earlier this week. It consists of 14 members headed by Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim. The other members are made up of a range of transport experts, grassroots leaders, cyclists, users of PMDs and motorised wheelchairs. The panel is currently taking in views from members of the public, and this will continue for 6 months. A public online survey has been made available for users to voice out their opinions, which is accessible at www.activemobilitysurvey.com. There will also be focus-group discussions to further refine the existing draft ruling. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
