SG: LTA to make Ang Mo Kio more cyclist-friendly
The LTA and URA have plans to make the Ang Mo Kio estate more walkable and cyclist-friendly. The plans, which should be put in place by 2018, will make it easier and more convenient to walk and cycle for short trips as well as to connect to public transport nodes. The scheme, first announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in November 2014, was part of the Sustainable Singapore Blueprint 2015, designed to show how Singaporeans can be less reliant on the automobile. The proposal is to equip the entire estate with a network of dedicated walking and cycling paths, pedestrian priority zones at bus stops, traffic calming measures, dedicated bicycle crossings at road junctions, and bicycle parking facilities. A 2.6km-long corridor along the MRT viaduct between Yio Chu Kang MRT station to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is also being considered, which should provide a seamless, all-weather path for pedestrians and cyclists to travel between their homes and the MRT stations.
