SG: More caught for not buckling their kids
More motorists are getting pulled over for not properly strapping their kids in the car. Their negligence may put the children at a greater risk of injury or death from an accident or sudden stop. In the first half of 2014, an average of 114 child restraint offences were recorded monthly, a 10% jump from the same period in 2013. Also, there was a 22% increase in the number of offenders in 2013 as compared to 2012. Motorists are risking not only their kids’ safety by not buckling up properly, they may get fined as well. Offenders risk a $1,000 fine and/or three months in jail. Legally, passengers under 1.35m in height have to be strapped in with an appropriate child restraint or use a booster seat or an adjustable seat belt. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
