SG: New building to hold taxis at Changi Airport

A new waiting area will be constructed to hold taxis queuing for passengers from Terminal 1. This expansion, along with the construction of a 2nd storey deck above the current taxi queue area, is aimed to improve the traffic flow and the general safety of the roads on Airport Boulevard. Currently, taxicabs choke up most of the roads, which worsens traffic flow; the taxi queue for T1 utilises the leftmost lane, and can stretch up to 800 metres during peak hours. The new structures will cost $50 million to erect, but will improve the existing infrastructure and increase the amount of taxis that can queue. This building will also provide some shade and lavatories for the cabbies’ use. This should be a welcomed relief for cabbies who ply the Changi area. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
