SG: New trains for Bukit Panjang LRT

The government has spent a lot of money on improving our public transport system, and the latest improvement comes in the form of 13 new train cars for the Bukit Panjang LRT line. The first few units have already arrived and are undergoing reliability testing. It is estimated that the first new trains will go into operation in the fourth quarter of this year. It is hoped that the new trains will reduce waiting times and ease crowds during peak hours, by increasing the efficiency by 50%. More 2 car trains can also be put in service with the new units. To complement the new trains, new platforms are being built at Choa Chu Kang LRT station. All in all, the new platforms and new trains should mean that the average waiting time will drop from the 5 minutes currently to about a 4 minutes after all is said and done.
