SG: Pedestrian killed in Clementi Bus accident

An accident that happened yesterday morning at around 7:35am saw a woman in her 40s meet her maker. The woman, who has been identified as Zhang Huirui, was crossing a pedestrian crossing when a double decker bus on service 78 knocked her down. According to The Straits Times, she was pinned down and dragged for a distance of about five metres before the bus came to a halt. Police arrived at around 7:50am. Zhang Huirui was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Tammy Tan, SBS Transit's Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications, said the company is extremely sorry about the collision, and they would render as much assistance as required to the victim's family.

The bus driver, a 47-year old Singaporean, has been suspended from service. Investigations are ongoing, and the bus driver is assisting the Police.

The late Zhang Huirui was the wife of a prominent National University of Singapore (NUS) Associate Professor, Gong Jiangbin, reported The Straits Times. Professor Gong was inconsolable when he reached the site and collapsed in tears.
