SG: SPF to add high tech cars to its fleet in the coming years

The Singapore Police Force has called for a tender to develop a high tech patrol car that is able to quickly respond to various situations. The cars will be used over the next decade and should enable the force to be one that is advanced, futuristic and formidable. Some of the requirements are futuristic  and from various new technologies. Each car is likely to be equipped with a state-of-the-art GPS navigation system and a 4 way in-vehicle video system. To better catch the crims, the police are keen to add an automated number plate recognition system. This enables the officers on patrol to more easily identify stolen cars or cars being driven by escaped criminals. That, coupled with the new locator tracker, will make escaping from the cops a tough challenge. The cars will be equipped with shatter-resistant windscreens which will be able to stand up to even the strongest of hits. Exterior mounted lights will assist in operations in dimly lit areas. The future patrol car should also be powered by engines ranging from two to three litres.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
