SG: “Ultimate Road Terror” involved in hit-and-run

34 year old Tan Yang Chin drove despite being banned from driving for one year, and when doing so, was involved in a hit-and-run accident along ECP on the 7th of February this year. The crash resulted in an overturned taxi, causing grievous hurt to Chinese national Wang Jing, 28. Tan was speeding along ECP before dozing off behind the wheel, hitting the centre divider.  When woken up, he veered his car towards the extreme left lane, which hit the back of Mr Goh Chee Kwang's taxi. The 51 year old cabby was taking Ms Wang and her friend to Changi Airport. Once hit, he lost control of the taxi, hitting the road barrier and overturning. Instead of offering assistance, Tan fled the scene, before abandoning his car about 1km away along ECP before Xilin Avenue exit. Ms Wang was brought to the hospital for fractures to her pelvis. Both vehicles were badly mangled up as a result of the crash. Tan, a banquet operations manager was labeled as the "ultimate road terror'' by a district judge on Wednesday. Tan was fined and banned from driving for 1 year starting from last April after he was caught drink driving. He drove at least 4 times during the last 2 months of his disqualification. He was charged with causing hurt to the taxi driver and the other passenger, and failure to stop after the impact.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
