The new digital cameras will be operational 24/7 to detect motorists who attempt to beat the red light. Second Minister for Home Affairs, Mr S Iswaran had announced in his Committee of Supply Debate speech last year that the Traffic Police will progressively install digital red light and digital speed cameras at various locations, eventually forming a network of almost 300 of such cameras. These new cameras have enhanced capabilities to better identify vehicles that speed or run red lights.

Beating the red light can potentially result in accidents causing injuries, or even the loss of innocent lives. We would like to remind all motorists that beating a red light attracts a fine and 12 demerit points against the traffic offender. Beat the red light twice within 24 months and your license will be suspended as you would have accumulated 24 demerit points.
