Transport minister advises aspiring car owners to wait till 2014

At MINI Plant Oxford preparations are afoot for a quite extraordinary anniversary: cars have been produced in Oxford for 100 years now and the history of the plant, like its present, is closely intertwined with the one-off British small car.  Where today the MINI is produced, the classic Mini- one of the most important models built in Oxford over the years since 1913-was also born.  The classic Mini embellished its British roots with every European character; Oxford’s assembly figures were bolstered by Mini cars pieced together over the decades in European pastures beyond the brand’s native borders. To kick off the celebrations, five Oxford-built MINIs are embarking on a tour that will take them to eight former classic Mini production locations the length and breadth of Europe.

MINI took part in the most grueling urban obstacle race in Singapore on 3 March 2013 (Sunday) which saw the participation of about 3,000 participants of mixed gender. The challenging Men’s Health Urbanathalon 2013 comprised of up to nine obstacles across a 14km distance which started from the Nicoll Highway MRT station and spanned across iconic landmarks and venues including; the Marina Bay Sands, the Esplanade, Clarke Quay and Fort Canning Hill, amongst others, before finishing off at the same start point. “With numerous breathtaking victories in the legendary Monte Carlo Rally, the MINI brand has always been synonymous to racing and sporting competitions. This is especially when referenced to its MINI John Cooper Works sub-brand, which was literally born with motor sport genes since the 1960s. This is what makes the sponsorship of the Men’s Health Urbanathalon 2013 so apt because both brands symbolise power, speed, accuracy, and most of all, are not normal,” said Mr Preecha Ninatkiattikul, Head of MINI Asia.
