UK: McLaren's V8 wins Engine of the Year award

McLaren’s M838T engine has won the 2014 Engine of the Year award! This marks the 2nd year in succession that the powerplant has snatched home the trophies in the under the '3.0-litre to 4.0-litre' category. The M838T that won the 2014 award is different from the one that won the 2013 award. The 2014 refresh has bumped power and torque up to a class leading 641bhp and 678Nm of torque when put in the new McLaren 650S Coupe and Spider. One of the judges, Dean Slavnich, said that the award was given to McLaren because the powerplant is “lightweight, twin turbocharged,(and thus has) reduced displacement and is very flexible with a wide power output”, before adding that the M838T V8 is “just a wonderful piece of powertrain engineering".Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
