UK: Range Rover goes electric
Tesla will offer their all-electric Model X crossover on sale very soon in several markets worldwide. Based on the popularity of the S, many expect the X to be a commercial success as well, which will render it a serious challenger in the crossover class. The designers at Coventry can see the potential threat, and have decided to start work on a full-electric Range Rover, even before the Model X has proven to be a success. Rumour has it that the all-electric Range Rover would likely be more crossover than a full-sized, ful-fledged SUV. The new car will also have less drag than current models, but will retain the group’s advanced aluminium frame. It may share a similar platform to its Jaguar SUV cousin, the C-X17.

Do expect the EV to be less capable off-road as compared to the other cars in the Land Rover portfolio, although less capable does not necessarily mean useless; the car will be equipped with a height-adjustable air suspension, which can be adjusted to suit the terrain the car is on.
