US: Sinkhole Corvette ZR1 Restored

On the 12th of February 2014, museum personnel were alerted by motion detectors which have gone off in the Skydome area of the facility. Upon arrival, they found a sinkhole which was 45 feet wide, 60 feet long and up to 30 feet deep, and it brought along 8 Corvettes. One of the Corvettes damaged in the incident was a 2009 Corvette ZR1, and the car has been fully restored and show-worthy once again. The ZR1, which sustained damage to its aero kit, passenger-side rocker panel and front wing, doors, windshield, bonnet window glass and passenger headlamp assembly, rear control arms on the driver's side and oil lines, is now fully rebuilt and will be a display piece at this week’s SEMA Show before heading back to the museum. 2 other sinkhole corvettes will be restored in 2015; the 1-millionth Corvette and a 1962 Corvette will join the ZR1 as fully rebuilt cars, while the other five damaged in the incident will remain in their as-recovered state to preserve their historical significance. All 8 will become part of a future display at the museum.
