US: Sinkholes swallow Corvettes

A sinkhole opened up in a Kentucky Corvette museum on Wednesday morning, swallowing several rare and desirable cars. The sinkhole, estimated to be 25-30 feet deep and 40 feet wide, swallowed a total of 8 cars, 6 of which belonged to the museum, with the rest still property of General Motors. The cars affected are: 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and 2009 ZR1 "Blue Devil" on loan from General Motors; a 1962 Black Corvette; 1984 PPG Pace Car; 1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette; 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette; 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette and a 2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette. Emergency personnel onsite gave the green light to the museum staff to remove the only surviving 1983 Corvette, which happened to be very close to the sinkhole, making it at risk of joining the other cars. The museum may be closed for a while while the structural intergrity of the whole building undergoes testing to ensure the structure is still safe. No word on the total amount of damage yet, but we expect it to be quite massive! Thankfully, no one was hurt in this incident, and let’s just hope some of the cars are salvageable.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
