Volkswagen found cheating on emissions

As many as 11 million Volkswagen cars are involved in a scandal involving emissions tests.

Apparently, these cars appear more environmentally friendly than they actually are during testing, and this is as a result of software installed on the cars known as a “defeat device”. The software allegedly knows when a car is undergoing an emissions test and makes it appear more environmentally friendly that it actually is.

This finding is relevant to Volkswagen’s diesel cars. It remains unclear whether petrol cars are affected or not.

Volkswagen Singapore was unable to comment on how this situation would affect Singapore, as this issue appears to be global in nature. Cars affected by this scandal are reportedly not sold here.

However, Volkswagen has promised to fully cooperate with the relevant global agencies and resolve the situation openly by establishing all the facts of the case.
