Volvo EX30 Is Now Cat A-Friendly!

When the Volvo EX30 was launched, it felt refreshing in a sea of plus-sized crossovers and SUVs. The initial variant managed 268bhp and 343Nm, which made it quite the pocket rocket. But with COE premiums staying firmly high over the years, and with brands pushing out more Cat A-friendly versions, having one (or in this case, two) EX30s in Cat A territory felt like a natural progression.

What are the key tech differences between Plus and Ultra?

Key differences include usage of a 51kWh LFP battery in the Plus, versus a 69kWh NMC battery for the Ultra. Maximum AC and DC charging for the Plus is rated at 7.2kW and 134kW, while the Ultra achieves it with 22kW and 153kW.

The Plus can go up to 337km per charge, while the Ultra is rated at up to 475km. Both have an output of 147hp (110kW) and 343Nm, and possibly due to the difference in battery type, the Plus weighs in at 1,765kg, 10kg less than the Ultra. Both do 0 to 100km/h in 8.6 seconds, up to a top speed of 180km/h.

How about key equipment differences?

The Ultra comes with a panoramic glass roof, front, side and rear sensors for park assist, and a 360-degree camera. Inside, the Ultra features more upholstery options. It will also come with 19-inch rims, compared to 18-inchers of the Plus. Both are available in five exterior colours – Onyx Black, Vapour Grey, Crystal White, Cloud Blue, and Sand Dune.
