Volvo may be sold off too

Both Ford and Volvo have categorically denied the rumors, but the financial crisis is forcing the U.S. carmaker to think otherwise.

After selling off Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Land Rover, Ford may sell Volvo too.

The news doesn't come as much of a shock. What is surprising however, is who may end up buying the Swedish brand: BMW.

Both Ford and BMW have denied any possibility, but speculation continues to abound that high-level representatives from both companies have already had preliminary talks regarding the supposed sale.

U.S. automakers are in dire need of fresh capital. Without an injection of liquidity, there's no chance of surviving this downturn. Why else would GM even consider merging with Chrysler? The very thought was unimaginable ten years ago.

Selling off Volvo must be a tempting thought in times such as these.
