The three models will carry Volvo's DRIVe badge, and are to be based on the C30 and S40 sedans, together with the V50 station wagon.
Each vehicle will be powered by a 1.6 litre turbodiesel engine. The powerplant is said to be capable of a 4.7l/100km fuel economy rating.
In addition to the economical engines, standard equipment will include Michelin tires which have lower rolling resistance. Advanced gear ratios will ensure that the engine is spinning at the most efficient rpms possible. Volvo has also improved engine cooling and filled the cars with low-friction transmission oil, so as to minimize energy loss there.
To round them off, these DRIVe models will be fitted with optimized wheel aerodynamics, better underbody panels and unique rear spoilers.
