WEC: Nissan to sort out issues before returning to competition

Nissan may have hyped up their LMP1 car for months before it actually made its way onto the track for the first time. That, and the fact that the early testing pace may seem extremely positive, its official race debut is anything but; the car was miles behind the likes of Audi, Porsche, and Toyota. It was plagued with mechanical issues from the very beginning, with ERS failures early on in the weekend, and brake issues through the race. Seems as though enough is enough for the boffins at NISMO, for the car has been pulled out of competition to be further developed and made reliable before the Japanese automaker will re-enter it into the World Endurance Championship. The GT-R LM NISMO will undergo further development mainly, but not exclusively in the United States. If you are wondering why Nissan’s LMP1 challenger has been plagued with issues from the very beginning, it is because the firm has started quite literally from a blank sheet of paper, as the car is front-mid engined and front-wheel drive, with electrical assistance providing an extra 750bhp to the rear wheels.
