BMW's Sales & Marketing director Ian Robertson revealed that the hybrid systems on both models would be different.
The 7 Series would only be a "mild" hybrid, because the electric motor paired with its 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 will only pack 20hp. The V8 engine will shut down during coasting and braking, while the electric motor continues to power accessories onboard.
The electric motor however, does produce an additional 209Nm of torque, which aids in reducing fuel consumption by 15 percent. The electric motor will be powered by a lithium ion battery stored in the boot. The 7 Series ActiveHybrid will also have regenerative brakes, which send the energy produced by the brakes back to the battery.
The X6 Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) however, will run on a full-hybrid system. To be equipped with a larger electric motor, the X6 will be able to run using either engine, electric motor, or a combination of both.
BMW hasn't released too many details regarding the X6 SAV, but the German manufacturer claims that its fuel economy figures are 20 percent better than similar V8 powered vehicles.
