Yoong won Round 8 ahead of Marchy Lee of Audi Hong Kong Team and Rahel Frey of Castrol Racing Team, while Lee took a hard-fought victory in Round 9, ahead of Cheng Congfu of FAW-VW Audi Racing Team and Frey. Lee’s win – his first of 2015 – marked the Cup’s seventh different winner this season, showcasing once again the competitiveness of the series.

Yoong, fourth in Round 9, leads the Overall Classification by just four points, with Cheng second and Thomas Fjordback of Federal-Mogul Motorparts Racing and Aditya Patel of Team Audi R8 LMS Cup tied for third. Marchy Lee is fifth in the championship, with Frey sixth.

The fight for the Amateur Cup had Cup fans on the edges of their seats as they watched Rounds 8&9 category winner Andrew Kim of E-Rain Racing Team battle with new Amateur Cup points leader Daniel Bilski of B-Quik Racing.

Next up for the Cup: joining forces next month with the Audi Sport motorsport family as Rounds 10&11 take place in support of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Fuji, Japan.

Quotes after Rounds 8&9

Alex Yoong (Audi TEDA Racing Team)

“I’m very happy to have won Round 8. There was a lot of nice pressure today, a lot of people who came out to support me – my father hasn’t been to a race track in 10 years. I knew Round 8 was going to be close and it would be difficult to win. I knew I had to push really hard at the beginning and try to save my Push-to-Passes and when Marchy came up at the end, I had lots of Push-to-Passes left, which allowed me to get the fastest lap and take pole position for Round 9.”

Marchy Lee (Audi Hong Kong Team)

“It was a good race and a good weekend. At the beginning, I almost made a big mistake, because I was bit rushed, but I came back. Rahel passed me, but then my ‘anger’ kicked in and I went past Rahel and then Alex to take the lead. I saw Franky coming and I had an extra 35 kgs and Franky didn’t have anything so I just had to keep up. I made a couple of mistakes but this race [Round 9] I was smarter as I had saved some of my Push-to-Passes until the end. I knew that Franky didn’t have any left and I had saved five, so I was able to manage the final few laps until the chequered flag.

Franky Cheng (FAW-VW Audi Racing Team)

“In the morning the first race was very disappointing for me and so to start from seventh [in Round 9] and finish second is something I have to be pleased about. Congratulations to Marchy, who was fast all weekend and I think he deserved the win. Now I just have to focus on Fuji and try to get another good result there.”

Rahel Frey (Castrol Racing Team)

“We didn’t change anything on the setup for the second race, but we adapted the tire pressure a little bit because I wanted an aggressive strategy for Round 9. I probably pushed a little too hard because my tires were dead at the end, but it was a great race and it’s been an interesting weekend. I’m looking forward to Fuji now as Marchy will have 50 kgs so good luck! I’m pretty happy with third place and having only 20 kgs for Round 10!”

Andrew Kim (E-Rain Racing Team)

“I really like Sepang and its high-speed corners. There were a couple of races that I didn’t finish this season so I was really focused on bringing the car home and trying to finish the race. I focused on managing my position and it worked.”
