First Impression (In Beijing): VOYAH Dream 9

VOYAH’s new flagship MPV brings a distinctly Chinese interpretation of luxury to a relatively crowded segment.

If you’ve been following us on Instagram, you’ll probably have seen some of the action from our recent trip to Beijing - and perhaps a glimpse of the rather imposing machine at the centre of it all.

Thanks to an invitation from Volt Auto, we got an early look at VOYAH’s latest flagship, the Dream 9, ahead of its arrival in Singapore.

Backed by Dongfeng Motor’s 57 years of engineering experience, VOYAH has spent the past four years carving out a space for itself as the group’s premium electrified brand. With the Dream 9, it is clearly aiming considerably higher.

And it certainly looks the part. The design draws heavily on what VOYAH calls “Eastern Aesthetics”, combining a large, imposing silhouette with details that add a touch of old-world elegance. The large chrome wheels help, but it’s the retractable crystal emblem that really grabs your attention - its 2,520 facets illuminate and rise from the bonnet as you approach.

Interior

Inside, VOYAH takes its idea of “Eastern Hospitality” rather literally.

Open the doors, and the body lowers, an illuminated sill extends outwards, and the second-row captain’s chairs rotate 45 degrees towards you. It’s theatrical, but also surprisingly useful when getting in and out.

Once inside, things get even more extravagant. The second-row Zero Gravity seats can be adjusted using a detachable remote mounted on the armrest, allowing them to rotate 45- or 90-degrees, or even a full 180-degrees to face each other.

There’s heating, ventilation, and massage for all seven seats, and the mechanical massage system is particularly impressive. Add triple-chamber air suspension and VOYAH’s Huju Chassis P, and the Dream 9 promises the sort of ride quality you’d expect from a flagship luxury MPV.

Technically Speaking

Underneath all that luxury is some serious EV hardware. All versions use an 800V high-voltage platform, while the all-electric version gets a substantial 120 kWh battery. VOYAH also says its Amber Battery incorporates 16 layers of full-domain structural safety protection, adding multiple safeguards around battery safety.

Then there’s the technology.

The Dream 9 uses Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 and HarmonySpace 6, backed by 37 sensors including dual-optical-path LiDAR and three solid-state LiDAR units. It is, unsurprisingly, as much a showcase for intelligent vehicle technology as it is for luxury.

Coming Our Way

The Dream 9 will be offered in China in three variants, priced from RMB 419,900 to RMB 529,900, with different versions catering to family, business and more ceremonial forms of luxury. It’s worth noting that the features and specifications highlighted here are based on the China-market Dream 9 we experienced during its global launch.

Singapore-specific specifications, features, pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed, so we’ll have to wait a little longer to see how the Dream 9 shapes up once Volt Auto brings it to our shores.
