In addition to the integrity of its structure, a full offering of active and passive safety systems make the Cruze among the safest in its class. Efficient load paths of the Cruze provide maximum occupant protection in the event of an impact from virtually any direction.

The energy-absorbing front and rear crumple zones are designed to deform as efficiently as possible in order to maintain the integrity of the passenger compartment, which is protected by a safety cage reinforced with a tubular-section that frame the door openings and support the roof. The combination of a single-piece side structure and ultra-high strength steel door beams also provides effective side impact protection.

Three-point seatbelts are fitted for all five seating positions. Active safety measures include the anti-lock braking, traction control and optional Electronic Stability Control.

Powertrains

In Singapore, the Cruze is available in 16-valve, 1.6-litre (107 hp) and 1.8-litre (140 hp) gasoline engines. Both feature numerous technological highlights, including two continuously adjustable camshafts (Double Continuous Variable Cam Phasing - DCVCP) to optimize the charge cycle for high output and torque characteristics, reduced emissions and reduced fuel consumption.

Drivers can look forward to the six-speed automatic transmission - again another first in the mid-sized compact segment. The six-speed transmission offers smoother upshifts and downshifts than four-speed automatic transmissions found in competitor models, and improved launch and acceleration with a wide overall ratio and smaller steps between the six forward gears. This results in improved fuel efficiency at high speeds.

The 1.6-litre engine is a standard fit for base and LS variants, while the 1.8-litre is standard for LT. For all engine applications, a universal front sub-frame carrying the engine and transmission is bolted in position by four rubber bushings. This 'isolated' mounting helps reduce the engine vibration and road noise in the cabin.

Launch price of the Cruze starts from $52,388 for the 1.6 MT, $54,988 for the 1.6 AT and $68,388 for the 1.8 AT. Customers can preview the car at all Chevrolet showrooms from 19 August 2009.

"The Chevrolet Cruze is expressive in its craftsmanship without being ostentatious and designed for those who appreciate things that are well-built and of high quality. We believe this will appeal to many Singaporeans who are looking for cars that offer exceptional value and fuel efficiency, and which allow them to express their individualism," said Mr Kittichai.
