Inside The Biggest Bike Showroom In Singapore - And What Tan Wei Is Building Next
From a mega-showroom merger to an official Yamaha tie-up, Tan Wei Motorcycles is setting the pace for what a dealership experience can be.

Four hundred bikes. Twenty thousand square feet. One address. Walk into Tan Wei Motorcycles' Carros showroom today and it's hard to picture that this used to be two separate shops - Tagore and Carros - with customers never quite sure which one to head to. That confusion is gone. So is the second address. What's left, by Yann Tan's own count, is the biggest used-and-new bike showroom in the country. "I don't think there's anywhere else you can see such a big showroom with so much inventory," he says.
But the merger is really just the visible part of a much bigger bet Yann is making - that a dealership doesn't have to be a place you visit once to buy a bike and never again.

The Hardest Part Wasn't The Bikes
Merging two showrooms into one wasn't a matter of just moving inventory. It meant rebuilding how the team worked, how customers found their way around, and how Tan Wei thought about its own footprint. "I wouldn't say I had hardships, but I guess this whole thing, we learned a lot - myself, my team, we all grew during this phase," Yann says. "It's not easy to merge into this mega size showroom."
The upside was worth it: one destination, not two. "Now they know - if they are looking for bikes, they want to hang out, Carros, this is the place."
A Showroom That Doesn't Want To Be Just A Showroom
Ask Yann what's next and he doesn't talk about more bikes - he talks about turning Carros into somewhere people show up even when they're not buying. In Q3 and Q4, the space grows again: an events area, plus an in-house merchandise line - helmets, tracksuits, riding jackets, boots, gloves. Add grooming services, a workshop, and a café to the mix, and the picture becomes clear. "It's no longer a place where you just come and buy and sell a bike," Yann says. "It's a one stop station."

Betting On Yamaha
The clearest sign of where Tan Wei is headed is its new tie-up with Ban Hock Hin, anchored by a brand-new offering: Yamaha. The showroom will run under its own name - Yamaha by Tan Wei. The choice of partner wasn't incidental. "A lot of people asked, 'Why Ban Hock Hin?'" Yann says. "Obviously they are the largest, they are the strongest, and this is what we want - we want to work with the best player in this industry."
It's not just a badge on the wall. The partnership comes with a combined one-plus-two-year warranty - real backing that Yann sees as the actual product. "We are not only selling you a bike - we are giving you the assurance, giving you more confidence to purchase a bike in Singapore."
That framing lines up with how Rex, President of the Singapore Motor Cycle Trade Association, sees the industry shifting. For Rex, a bike purchase was never really a single transaction. "The purchase of a motorcycle is the start of a relationship with the customer," he says. "It's going to be a long-term relationship... the bike is not a purchase just for a day. It is a purchase for at least a few years, if not ten years or more." That's exactly why after-sales support matters as much as the sale - "rather than sitting in a workshop facing repair bills and downtime."
Rex is just as direct about what official partnerships change for buyers: warranty, parts, technical support, all in one place. "That will just let you take your mind off all these worries, and you enjoy the ride." On Tan Wei's move specifically, he's optimistic: "I think it will be a very interesting positive partnership, and I'm looking forward to see how it pans out."

The Riders Who Never Left
None of this works without the community Tan Wei has built up around it - and that part hasn't changed. Weekly rides are still a fixture ("that's already a norm," Yann says), open to anyone willing to reach out over Facebook or Instagram and join in. Last year alone brought a durian party with roughly 400kg of durian for the crew, a Chinese New Year dinner, and a breaking-of-fast dinner with Muslim clients - small gestures, but ones that say a lot about who Tan Wei is building this for.
The same open-door approach extends to the track. First-timers are welcome - "Anyone who is interested in going to track, you have no experience, you want to try out - always drop us a DM," Yann says - with plans already taking shape for Sepang and Buriram as the track community keeps growing.

"There's No Bad Decision"
Ask Yann what he'd tell someone starting out, and the answer comes fast, no hedging: "Just try everything you are thinking of, just execute. Don't think and wait - any ideas you have in mind, just do it. You will definitely gain something - either you gain knowledge, or best, you gain knowledge and money."
It's the same instinct that took Tan Wei from one showroom to a 20,000 square foot flagship - and, going by the Yamaha deal and the plans still on the drawing board, one he's far from done acting on. "Ideas are cheap, but it's about execution. All you need is to just do it. There's no bad decision - every decision, you gain something out of it."
With Carros now open, a Yamaha partnership backed by real warranty assurance, and a community calendar that keeps growing, Tan Wei Motorcycles' next chapter looks every bit as ambitious as the last.
