Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLE Coupe launched in Singapore
Mercedes-Benz has introduced the new GLE Coupe and GLE, taking their renowned off-road prowess to the luxury consumer.
Powering the new GLE 400 is the familiar 3.0l twin-turbo V6 engine producing 333 hp and 480 Nm. The GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC Coupe gets an uprated version of the engine with 367 hp and 520 Nm. All cars in Singapore come with 4MATIC all-wheel drive at the moment.
Both the GLE and GLE Coupe also come with a whole host of safety features typical of modern Mercedes cars, which will ensure all occupants’ safety with extensive driver aids and proactive preventive systems.
As far as looks go, the new GLE range has been updated with the current style of Mercedes headlamps with a pronounced eyebrow as well as matching new LED tail lamps bringing the GLE range closer to the rest of Mercedes’ offerings. New tailpipes and bumpers as well as slightly revised body panel styling complete the rest of its midlife refresh.
The most striking update to the exterior look comes as a whole new model in itself, or the GLE Coupe. Designed to compete in the polarising segment that the BMW X6 created, the Coupe version of the GLE doesn’t look any less controversial. On top of that, the GLE 450 AMG Coupe also sets a new Mercedes first: it’s the first of the AMG sports models, or to put it in perspective, the range topping GLE 450 AMG Coupe is set to compete with the BMW M performance line up which includes the likes of the X6 M50d.
In addition to the features found on the standard GLE, the GLE 450 AMG Coupe also comes with the aforementioned nine-speed gearbox as standard and AMG styling on the inside and out to live up to its fire-breathing name.
Prices begin at $345,888 for the GLE 400 and $383,800 for the GLE 450 AMG Coupe (accurate at 26 Nov 2015).
