Price drop guide after May round 2 COE bidding
COE prices saw mixed results after the end of the latest bidding exercise that ended on Wednesday. While Cat A COE prices saw an increase, Cat B COEs meant for bigger cars saw its premium dip by over $3,000. Needless to say, car distributors have adjusted their prices.
As of Thursday, here are some of the more affordable buys after yesterday's COE bidding exercise:
The cute little Italian car saw a significant price drop and now costs well under the $100k mark. The 500 is probably one of the cutest and most fashionable small cars around and the canvas roof Convertible version adds an extra element to the 500 motoring experience. Fahionistas need not look elsewhere.
Italy's equivalent of the Volkswagen Golf is certainly very much under rated. It's not at all a bad hatchback though - the Bravo is stylish and offers more than enough go from its 1.4 T-jet turbocharged engine. The only drawback is the lack of a proper two-pedal model - it comes with either a manual box or a sequential manual.
The recently updated Punto received a new Multi-air motor that offers much more poke than the old Grande Punto's unit can muster. The Punto is still one of the most stylish compact hatchbacks around. At just over $80k, it's an interesting prospective for those who want something different.
The base Grand Vitara has been one of the most affordable mid-sized SUVs from Japan, and this week, it costs a significant $7,000 less than before the COE round. Yes, its only 2WD but who needs AWD in an urban jungle like Singapore? The interior is spacious and practical while the looks are rugged.
The GTI is possibly one of the most desirable hot hatch, if not performance car out there. The Golf is a practical car to begin with but shoehorn a 2-litre turbo lump, tweaked sports suspension and a touch of aggression to the styling, you get a near perfect recipe. Not forgetting the wide appeal of the DSG gearbox as well. GTI prices have dropped by $4k this time round so it's worth to have a look for those in the hunt for a practical performance car.
In addition to the abovementioned models, Fiat and Volkswagen have cut prices for their other models as well. Please note that not all car distributors have updated their prices as of Thursday night.
