The muscle car - any colour, as long as it's back

But judging from initial reviews of these new breeds, it seems Jeremy Clarkson's gospel about American cars holds true. These cars don't have the greatest interiors in the world, nor do they corner on rails, but muscle cars aren't about how fast you go around the track.

They're a lifestyle, an attitude. They're cool, and one thing's for sure - floor the throttle in any of them and they'll be sticking two middle fingers up at the eco-green, Prius-loving community once the tyre smoke clears. Think of them as the automotive world equivalent of Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Needless to say, these cars are an acquired taste - a taste that doesn't go down well with the local car community. Case in point - local car buffs hated the latest instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise because of its slant towards muscle cars.

Given the hand that we've been dealt, it's unlikely we'll see any of them on our shores, no thanks to our strict engine capacity-dependant road tax system and demands of the local market. Rumour has it that GM might be bringing the Camaro to our shores, but until then, I'll keep my fingers crossed...
