Engine upgrades for different engine types
Tuning a car’s engine presents both potential performance and fuel mileage gains that would not otherwise be attainable. Before you start planning any upgrades for your car’s engine, consider the following points.
Supercharged engines also force more air into the engine’s cylinders to increase power output. Instead of drawing on air from the exhaust gases, superchargers compress air from outside the engine and then send it to the intake manifold.
Since superchargers run on pulleys, one of the most common modifications to increase power output on a supercharged engine is to install smaller pulleys, which increases the speed of the supercharger’s impellers and forces more air into the cylinders for even more power output.
TSI engines produced by Volkswagen come with both a turbocharger and supercharger. You can employ all of the same tuning tricks you would use on both turbocharged and supercharged engines to squeeze the most performance out of a TSI engine.
If you are looking to upgrade your engine for serious power, consult with a qualified mechanic for assistance. Working on increasing an engine’s power requires a high level of knowledge and ability if you want to avoid doing serious damage to your engine, turbocharger or supercharger.
