There is unconfirmed news that the 2008 Dakar rally is cancelled due to safety concerns.

A news report emerging from France has claimed that the 2008 Dakar rally has been cancelled.
Safety concerns emerged after four French tourists were murdered in Mauritania on Christmas Eve. The French government urged travellers to avoid the country.
The rally was due to kick off in Lisbon tomorrow and finish in Dakar on the 20th January with nine stages of the rally were due to pass through the North African country.
