The announcement from Ferrari GB follows record sales in 2007, when it sold 699 cars - 571 more than it sold in 1992. That means the UK is now Ferrari's third-biggest market after the United States and Germany.

Buyers of the 599 will have the longest wait, while the 430 Coupe and 430 Spider have a waiting list of 30 months and the wait for a 612 Scaglietti is around 24 months.

Massimo Fedelli, managing director of Ferrari GB, told The Times: 'In many respects Britain is Ferrari's most important territory. Rich people come here to spend their money, so no matter what happens with the economy, I believe the UK market will remain strong.'
