The Audi R8 V10 has been in development for some time now.

It all started off when one of the early prototypes burst into flames, leading many to believe the R8 just couldn't handle the temperatures that the V10 engine was putting out. A bit of magic has proved that nothing is impossible for the talented engineers in Germany, and now here is the high-spec R8 out on the Ring. But this time seen in full production trim.

The potential of the 5.0-liter V10 engine, which will be used in the R8 V10, was there for all to see in the RS6 Avant - which achieved a massive 580 hp. But it is rumoured the Audi engineers will pump this figure up yet further when the RS7 is released.

Despite these super power figures the R8 V10 would be capable of, it is likely the model will be limited to around 500 horses. So, if the engineers go too far up the scale, they are likely to to create a direct competitor for sister brand's Lamborghini Gallardo.

There have been no confirmed dates for the worldwide unveiling of the R8 V10, but judging by the showroom look of the picture it doesn't look too far off. The next major motor show will be in London, but Audi may wait until the even bigger Paris Motor Show in September.
