Some call it the MINI Cooper viewed from a magnifying glass. And in iPhone speak, you might be tempted to label it as the MINI “Pro Max”. Call it however we want - the Countryman has proven to be a massive hit since its inception in 2010.

In Singapore’s context, more metal for the dollar works given how prohibitive COE premiums have become. There’s a Cat A offering for the new Countryman. And it’s not an EV - the 3 pot turbo motor is tuned specifically for this category, which as of press time costs S$242,888, meaning more than 10 grand of “savings” from the more costly Cat B COE.

So how much power are we talking about?

The MINI Countryman C (C denotes petrol-powered units) summons 119hp and 230Nm from its 1.5-litre turbo 3 cylinder. Mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, it completes the century sprint in 10.5 seconds. Go easy on the throttle and you might even achieve 14.7km/l on the combined cycle.

Did the Countryman grow in size?

Yes, very slightly. 13cm longer and 8cm taller than before, now with a more upright silhouette. Short overhangs add to its agile character, while the updated LED headlights and rear lights introduce fresh light signatures.

450 litres of boot space

It’s built to house 5 adults. Extra width in the shoulder and elbow areas adds space, and the 3 rear seats offer adjustable backrests (up to 12 degrees). Rear seats can also slide up to 13cm for more legroom or cargo space. They fold in a 40:20:40 split, enabling a trunk storage from 450 to 1460 litres.

Funky cabin with trademark display

There’s a sleek 240mm round OLED display, enabling easy touch and voice control for all infotainment and assistance systems. MINI Experience Modes add personalised visuals, ambient lighting and sound to the cockpit. Essential driving functions are managed through the MINI toggle bar.
