If the pundits are correct, then Mazda is sure to roll out a dual-powered RX-9 that runs just as well on hydrogen as it does on petrol.

The Wankel engine used by Mazda is not as vulnerable to many of hydrogen's failings as in other internal combustion units. Mazda has also extensively tested rotary engined cars that run on hydrogen gas.

There is further speculation that Mazda may be able to produce such a car by 2012. This would be in line with Mazda's hope of having a car in their assembly lines within the next 5 years.
