Hyundai Motor Company has debuted the new Santa Fe SUV, showcasing a unique 'Open for More' concept. The unveiling took place against the picturesque backdrop of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where the brand's name originated.

Deviating from the norm, Hyundai Motor took a different design approach, starting with the enlarged tailgate area. The result is a cohesive design that marries efficiency with a robust aesthetic, making the Santa Fe versatile for both city and longer haul duties.

SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center, emphasised the SUV's balance of city and outdoor capabilities, stating, "The all-new Santa Fe is an SUV that finds a perfect balance between city life and the great outdoors, handling everything from busy family itineraries to camping adventures."

The front of the Santa Fe features a high hood, H-shaped headlamps and bulked-up fenders - exuding a commanding presence that reminds us of the Land Rover Defender. The distinctive H-shaped headlamps and lower front valance create a bold image inspired by Hyundai's emblem. This presence is accentuated by a longer wheelbase and 21-inch wheels - the latter we reckon could be standard fare only for higher tier variants.

The redesigned rear profile features a wider tailgate, contributing to a cleaner, sculpted look. Internally, the Santa Fe employs an H-shaped design in the dashboard and air vents, enhancing the feeling of space.

The Santa Fe introduces features like a UV-C Sterilization Tray and dual wireless charging for smartphones, elevating the user experience while maintaining SUV practicality. The innovative Panoramic Curved Display seamlessly integrates a 12.3-inch digital cluster and infotainment system, enhancing visibility and luxury.

The expanded wheelbase results in more than ample interior space (fingers crossed for it to edge closer to Palisade-grade roominess), transforming into a terrace-like area when the second and third row seats are folded, reflecting Hyundai’s intent to place functionality as a priority.

In terms of sustainability, the Santa Fe incorporates eco-friendly materials in both interior and exterior design, showcasing Hyundai's commitment to environmental responsibility.

The Santa Fe will offer ICE and PHEV options globally, with a launch in Korea, North America, and Europe scheduled over the coming year. Hyundai also unveiled the XRT Concept, catering to outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers. Could some of them eventually be assembled in Singapore’s Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre? We’re not ruling out this possibility…
