L.A. Motor Show: Bentley Debuts The New Flying Spur

Bentley Motors presented its new Flying Spur, the world's fastest road-going sedan, at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. Also on display was the Bentley Continental GTC V8 Convertible and the flagship Mulsanne with its enhanced hand-crafted and hi-tech cabin. The Flying Spur is the fastest-road going luxury sedan in the world and it features Bentley's renowned 6.0 litre, twin turbo W12 engine. It develops 616 bhp and runs from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. The Flying Spur's design fuses traditional Bentley styling cues with a dynamic stance and contemporary details.

A touch-screen infotainment system with mobile connectivity, including Wi-Fi, allows the driver and passengers alike to interface with the car and the outside world. A Rear Seat Entertainment suite and a new bespoke hand-held Touch Screen Remote give rear-cabin occupants control over an extensive range of features from the comfort of their seats.

The 2014 Bentley Mulsanne, which was also on display, was presented with the very latest suite of technology for rear seat passengers. The Entertainment Specification has the latest in-car technological developments, with picnic tables designed for an iPad and wireless keyboard, as the cabin of the Mulsanne becomes a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Entertainment Specification option offers a full menu of communication, entertainment and information. Once the picnic tables are deployed, a smooth hide-trimmed writing surface is revealed. At the touch of a button, the surface lifts to reveal a dedicated space for an iPad and keyboard, ready to connect to a web browser via the on-board Wi-Fi.

The Entertainment Specification is further enhanced with twin, eight inch LCD headrest screens, incorporating a 20 GB hard drive and DVD player, played through a ‘Naim for Bentley’ premium audio system, while two sets of Bluetooth headphones and a dedicated remote control allows additional playback options.

The Bentley Continental GTC V8 introduces a completely new driving experience with an engine that has exhilarating power, drama and performance you would expect from a V8 engine sporting the famous Bentley wings. The 4.0 litre, 500hp twin turbocharged Continental GTC V8 convertible achieves exceptional standards for performance and efficiency in the high luxury sports car sector. The V8 engine delivers maximum power of 500 bhp at 6000 rpm and an extraordinary peak torque of 487 lb-ft which is available across virtually the entire rev range from 1700 to 5000 rpm, providing exhilarating performance and effortless power delivery in the Bentley tradition. Combined with a close-ratio ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, this translates into a 0-60 acceleration time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 187 mph.
