The Land Transport Authority of Singapore has just announced the the Certificate of Entitlement(COE) quota for the period August 2012 till January 2013.

There will only be a total of 19,351 certificates available across all categories. This period will see 2,809 less certificates available compared to the 22,160 COEs available previously.

Significant reductions will be observed in the monthly quotas for Category A and Category E vehicles.

Come August, monthly Category A (cars below 1,600cc) quotas will be just 786, down 453 units from the 1,239 available in the present period.

Category E or 'Open' category quotas will also be cut to 485 pieces monthly, down by 132 pieces from the 617 presently available.

Category B (cars above 1,600cc) figures remain steady, with a two unit increase to 701 certificates; up from the current 699 available.

Category C (goods and services) vehicles will see a 41 unit increase from 319 presently to 360 come August.

Similarly in Category D (motorcycles), there will be more 894 COEs available monthly, up 74 from the current 820 monthly quota.

Crucially, this would point to a further increase in the costs of COEs in the next period. And prospective buyers for Cat. A cars would be hardest hit as a result of a decreased supply.
