McLaren Reveals MCL-HY FIA Hypercar Alongside MCL-HY GTR
The MCL-HY GTR is a track-only variant, giving select McLaren clients an ultra-exclusive car plus insider race team access.

McLaren is back on the endurance racing grind, unveiling its all-new MCL-HY Hypercar - a serious contender for the FIA World Endurance Championship and the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans from 2027.

The car will spend 2026 deep in testing mode before getting the green light to race. Its retro-inspired test livery pays tribute to the McLaren M6A - a nice callback to Bruce McLaren’s original Le Mans vision.

McLaren wants another shot at the elusive Triple Crown - winning the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans. Two are already in the bag. This Hypercar, we reckon, is the final boss.

Spec-wise, it’s built to LMDh rules: lightweight carbon chassis, twin-turbo V6, hybrid boost - good for around 707PS. It’s not just about outright speed, but lasting the full 24-hour fight.

Then there’s the side quest: the MCL-HY GTR. A track-only variant for select clients, it drops the hybrid system, cranks out about 730PS, and leans into a more old-school, no-nonsense driving feel.

Through “Project: Endurance”, buyers get plugged straight into McLaren’s racing world - think insider access, plus a two-year, fully supported track programme with coaching, pit crew and arrive-and-drive sessions.

Testing kicks off in May 2026. If everything clicks, McLaren hits the grid and hands over customer cars next year.
