Audi Singapore has introduced the all-new RS 5, marking Audi Sport's first foray into high-performance plug-in hybrids (PHEV). Available in both Sedan and Avant body styles, the new RS 5 makes its local debut alongside Audi's Formula 1-related activities leading up to the Singapore Grand Prix.

Under the bonnet sits a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 producing 375 kW (503 bhp), paired with a 130 kW (174 bhp) electric motor. Combined, the plug-in hybrid powertrain delivers a substantial 470 kW (630 bhp), bringing electric assistance into Audi's established RS performance formula.

Both variants come standard with the Audi Sport package, which includes 21-inch two-tone diamond-cut Phantom Black alloy wheels, an RS sport exhaust system and a top speed of 285 km/h.

For those who prefer their performance cars with added practicality, the RS 5 Avant offers the versatility of an estate without sacrificing power. The RS 5 Sedan, meanwhile, provides the same mechanical package in a conventional four-door body.

In Singapore, the RS 5 Sedan starts from S$713,999, while the RS 5 Avant is priced from S$723,999, both inclusive of COE.

“Audi's first year in Formula 1 has created new opportunities to bring the energy of motorsport closer to fans,” said Martin Bayer, Managing Director of Audi Singapore. “The all-new RS 5 represents the next chapter of Audi Sport's electrified high-performance journey as our first plug-in hybrid model.”

The launch also coincides with a series of public displays around Singapore. The RS 5 Sedan will be showcased at Audi's House of Progress at 18 Cross Street from 1 October, while the RS 5 Avant will be displayed at Off the Grid by adidas and Audi at Funan Mall from 1 to 11 October.

Motorsport fans can also catch the Audi R26 Formula 1 show car at Funan until 2 October, and again from 8 to 11 October. Audi Revolut F1 Team drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hülkenberg are scheduled to make a public appearance at the mall on 7 October.

With the arrival of the RS 5, Audi joins the growing number of performance car manufacturers turning to electrification, not merely for efficiency, but also as a means of extracting more performance from the traditional combustion engine.
