New Hyundai EVs To Be Under New IONIQ Sub-Brand

Hyundai Motor Company has announced the launch of its new IONIQ brand, which will be dedicated to battery electric vehicles. With the growth of EVs, the IONIQ brand is the Korean automotive giant’s move to accelerate their plan to lead in the global EV market.  We can expect three new dedicated models donning the IONIQ badge within the next four years. New cars will be built upon the all-new E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), and will feature fast charging, spacious interiors thanks to better packaging and full-on battery-supplied power. The new E-GMP, according to Hyundai, promises plentiful driving range, which is one of the major issues often brought up with current-day EVs.

“The IONIQ brand will change the paradigm of EV customer experience,” said Wonhong Cho, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer at Hyundai Motor Company. “With a new emphasis on connected living, we will offer electrified experiences integral to an eco-friendly lifestyle.”

The new models in the pipeline will be the IONIQ 5, 6 and 7 cars. Hyundai has also stated that odd numbers will denote SUVs, while even ones will be reserved for sedans.

The first IONIQ branded car will be the IONIQ 5, a midsize CUV, that the company will launch in early 2021. The IONIQ 5 is developed from the EV ‘45’ concept which Hyundai unveiled at the International Motor Show (IAA) 2019 in Frankfurt.

Their second model, the IONIQ 6 sedan will be launched a year later, which is based on their latest EV concept, the ‘Prophecy’, unveiled this March; followed by IONIQ 7, a large SUV in early 2024. With their new initiative, we can expect that the EV will soon become more attainable for the average car buyer.

In Singapore, Komoco Motors which is Hyundai’s dealership, and one of the first-movers in offering Singapore a practical EV, will also be the official dealership for the IONIQ brand.
